The Flightless Birds and Reluctant Flyers of Aotearoa are here in all their earthbound glory, ready for you to bring them to life. 30 original full-page illustrations (and a couple smaller drawings) of penguins, kiwis, takahē, kōkako, tīeke, and assorted reluctant ducks and wrens. On every other page (opposite the picture) is the name of the animals and plants (ferns, so many ferns) in the picture in three languages: English, te reo Māori (with correct macrons), and Latin. (Learn some te reo and get your science on at the same time!) Above the list of names of the flora and fauna is a brief description of the animal (flightless, a very reluctant flyer, or just aesthetically bad at flying like the pūkeko.) Every illustration is hand drawn and every bird is totally cute! Grab your colours and relax in the rainforests of New Zealand!

Each illustration is on a single page to reduce bleed-through, but for watercolor or markers, we suggest placing blotting paper behind the page while coloring. This coloring book is 8.5" x 11" (21.6 x 28cm) and great for both adults and children.

Kia Ora! I live in Upper Hutt, New Zealand, surrounded by hundreds of endemic ferns and birds. I create graphics and labels for Kererū Brewing Co and I love to draw birds on my own for fun. I hope you enjoy looking through my work. Cheers!

I was so excited to receive my coloring book. You had me from the name, Bad Flyers of New Zealand is so clever. The cover art is also beautiful. When the book was delivered, I was pleased to find that it is a high quality publication, from the sturdy, vibrant, and satisfyingly glossy cover to the substantial pages that have the perfect texture for colored pencils, crayons, pens, markers, or pastels. The illustrations are so beautiful that I was reluctant to color any of them for fear of ruining them! Once I really looked into the book, I was surprised to find that there was so much information packed into a few lines on each page. The common names of each bird (and any accompanying flora and insects) are given in English, Te Reo Māori, and then the Latin name is also included. And then, there on the last page, Natasha gives us the Colours (Ngā Tae) in English and Te Reo Māori. Now I HAD to color those earth-bound beauties! The first picture I included is the full colour cover. The second is my coloring of the Rifleman, or Titipounamu (Tititipounamu) on the Half Title Page. I had to research the coloring because this is not just a colouing book, it is a love story and I thought it deserved that respect. I've already learned so much! I can't wait to learn more about each of these birds, New Zealand, and the Te Reo Māori. Thank you Natasha Dahlbergs and Fairy tail Press!

The drawings are beautiful and accurate line illustrations of native New Zealand birds (either flightless or ones that don’t fly well). The print quality is good. There is a little descriptive text on the opposing page of each illustration, with the native Māori name of the bird and a little bit about each one. The pack page also has a list of colors in English and Māori, with a pronunciation guide. This book makes a great gift for children and adults that like to color, or anyone interested in birds. Would buy again!
