About the Author

Dane C. Ortlund (PhD, Wheaton College) serves as senior pastor of Naperville Presbyterian Church in Naperville, Illinois. He is the author of Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers and Deeper: Real Change for Real Sinners. Dane and his wife, Stacey, have five children.



J. I. Packer (1926–2020) served as the Board of Governors’ Professor of Theology at Regent College. He authored numerous books, including the classic bestseller Knowing God. Packer also served as general editor for the English Standard Version Bible and as theological editor for the ESV Study Bible.

If you are involved in ministry and encounter English readers who are interested in exploring God's word, this small Gospel of John is a fantastic place to start! While I believe all Christians ultimately need to spend time in the whole Bible, a person new in their faith journey often feels overwhelmed, may flip to a random page in Exodus or Numbers and feel confused/overwhelmed by what the text is telling them. By giving them one of the Gospels, a book they can read in a few hours, it gives a more concise, pinpointed entrance into the faith. It offers an explanation of the purpose behind the ESV translation, three study plans (breaking the book down into three, seven or 21 days of reading,) a sinner's prayer, and an index of popular encouraging verses from the book.
The large print makes it more accessible to those who have poor vision, and the price simply can't be beat. These would be great to keep in your car, in your purse or anywhere you think you might encounter someone who needs a little hope!

I've been wanting to share the good news with several friends and family for years. One family member in particular, however, needs things that are a bit larger print, so this was perfect.

It's very nicely printed and bound, making it an elegant gift for yourself or a friend.

It's perfectly sized as well - it's not tiny like the "pocket" varieties of John, but it's more portable than a hardback or full sized Bible.

I love it! I hope to be able to order more in the future when necessary. I'd say it's the perfect blend of size, classic design, and affordability!

The Gospel of John is a book to suggest for someone new to Christianity to read. Having this individual Gospel on hand to give out is great. This is a nice size to slip in your purse/bag or even in a back pocket if you knew you might need it, to be able to give someone on the spot. Keep one in your car just in case. Also the print is big enough I can read it without reading glasses, I hit my 40s and had to get readers.

By its price, this book is meant to be easily accessible. Font appears to be 'Times New Roman' but 10.5 font size may be difficult to match with daily experience of computer and cell phone. Personal reading preference is not guaranteed. To its credit are the 'additional resources' section, but do not expect the academic primary or secondary resources. Besides quotations from popular scriptures, resources contain suggested reading and studying ideas to promote understanding. In that regard, this is a fine primer.

Sadly, the publishers outsourced the printing to China, a country that imprisons and persecutes Christians. Had that fact been known, this purchase would not have occurred. Publisher integrity is now in question. Thankfully, even this humble version might be used for saving souls. Amen.

My favorite Book in the Bible, and great to have the ESV translation of it in a nice easy-carry, yet easy to read size (and font)!
Absolute recommendation from me.

A side note to help alleviate any legitimate concern:
Don't worry about which country prints this, any more than you worry about the ones who make parts for whatever you use...in fact: worry less. WHY? Because EVERYONE needs more Gospel in their lives, and John is a great message to begin with...Christians are persecuted in all countries--Jesus Himself promised it'd be so. "The wealth of the wicked is laid up for the Righteous."
ENJOY John's message, and spread the Word; Godspeed!

I love reading the bible, and this version of the Gospel of John is awesome. It is the an easy version to read, unlike the King James Version, and the print is larger for my older eyes. The book is small enough to carry in my purse, which makes it so much easier to take with me to read when I am waiting at the doctors office.

The font that was used in the book is perfect. A simple font, not one with any curves that makes it harder to read.

I wish more of the books of the bible would be printed like this.

I highly recommend this, and would recommend this to my family and friends. I love this product.
