The purpose of "Voices from a Wilderness Expedition" is to reawaken the now silent voices pf the brave men who made this historic march from Cambridge to Quebec through the wilderness of Maine with Benedict Arnold in 1775. It is not a chronological history of the expedition but rather provides details and new nformation about the men who participated and the journals that recorded the hardships of the march. It provides significant new information on both the men and the journals that has never been published.

The book features the following: a comprehensive roster of 1125 names of officers and men, by company, who were on the expedition; first ever bibliography of all printings of 30 journals written by participants; transcription of 6 previously unpublished journals, including three which were found in the University of Glasgow Library; new biographical information on Col Roger Enos and Capts Hendricks, Huubard, Hanchett, McCobb, Williams and Goodrich; identification of name and history of Captain Scott, a previously unknown company commander.

Darley was owner of a real estate development and consturction company in the New Haven, Connecticut area for almost forty years and he retired in 2009. He lives in North Haven, CT with his wife Peggy and is a mrember of the New Haven Museum, North Haven Historical Society and the Connecticut Society of Genealogists.

He also has an interest in the history of the far west and has written articles on that historical era as well.

Mr. Darley's first book, a bio-bibliography of Rafael Sabatini, was published by Oak Knoll Press in 2010, which he co-authored with Jesse Knight. His first book on the Revolutionary War is Book One in a four part series on the Northern Revolutionary Army from 1775 to 1777. The first book in that series was "Voices from a Wilderness Expedition: THe Journals and Men of Benedict Arnold's Expedition to Quebec in 1775." The book presents a complete bibliography of all thirty extant journals regarding the Quebec expedition, including five journals never published before. Included in the book is a comprehensive roster containing the names of 1125 officers and men who were on the expedition with Arnold.

His second book in the series on the Northern Army, is "The Battle of Valcour Island: The Participants and Vessels of Benedict Arnold's 1776 Defense of Lake Champlain." This book identifies for the first time the names of 16 of the 17 captains of the vessels who served under Benedict Arnold in October of 1776. A short bio of each captain is included. The book also has a roster of 448 officers and men who participated in the Valcour battle with sources listed. This should be of interest to those seeking information on ancestors who served on Lake Champlain in 1776. This book was positively reviewed in Vermont History journal in 2014.

His most recent book is "Call to Arms: The Patriot Militia in the 1777 British Raid on Danbury, Connecticut." This book lists 1025 men who were in the three day event in April of 1777. It has biographies of 5 officers who were involved as well as a Chapter on Major General David Wooster of Connecticut. Letters, journals and other accounts are excerpted to provide person accounts.

This book was recommended to me because of the authors suburb researching skills. I was searching for one of my ancestors, who genealogy claims he was there. I had my doubts to begin with because of the timeline and thought if his name was included the genealogy must be correct, but discovered that his name was not on the list and my timeline holds. This is an excellent read from the mens journals. The men lived through a horrid time, it was difficult journey and many did not live to reach Quebec

This book is a very well written, obviously thoroughly researched and superbly documented, scholarly inquiry undertaken to supplement and enhance other historical accounts of Benedict Arnold's expedition to Quebec in 1775. It provides additional, previously unpublished and other supplemental historical/bibliographical data, marshaled to strengthen, clarify and expand upon the earlier record. It adds some new voices describing events encountered during the trek, adds to the biographical information about expedition participants and questions some previous, generally accepted facts surrounding the record. Not myself being a seasoned student of this particular episode in American history (having not read extant journals of all its participants, nor all other general historical accounts of the expedition), I cannot attempt here to provide a comparative assessment of this work verses other documented materials. However, I did find this book very informative, to my knowledge, historically accurate, and engrossingly interesting. I would also note that, I found the graphical summary of expedition events; the numbers and composite aggregation of its participants, the essential elements of the geographical landscape traversed, the timing of events, etc. (pp. 276-277) to be very helpful in summarizing (envisioning) the critical contents/events surrounding the expedition.

My compliments to the author. He has filled in gaps that were not covered by Kenneth Roberts (March to Quebec) over fifty years ago. An excellent book. I highly recommend it to all revolutionary war students.
