Pio McDonnell
3.0 out of 5 stars Needs to be in hardback with better paper quality
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 8, 2023
For such a high priced paperback, the quality is just not there. I have her other book Encyclopedia of Vampires in hardback and the quality of that book far, far exceeds this slim and cheap-feeling effort. I don't understand why the publisher would not stick with the better production quality of her previous encyclopedia so that the set matches (she's got three other encyclopedias I was hoping to buy, but if they're as poor quality and as expensive as this book, I'll pass on buying them for my personal home library). Content-wise; there's a brief four page intro and then alphabetically arranged entries ranging in length from a few lines to several paragraphs (each page, after the intro, has a two-column spread with small 9pt text). The bibliography is extensive and there's also an index at the end of the book. I think what's missing from the book though is a "quick list" of the giants and humanoid divided into countries (so that if you wanted to look up say, Norway, you could see what giant humanoids came from Norway). The paper texture of the pages in this book are rough and cheap feeling when compared to her previous vampire encyclopedia. Overall, this is way over-priced for the obvious cheapness of its production quality.
