This is the only preserved ancient painting of the imperial family of the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus. Here, we can see his wife Julia Domna and his sons, Caracalla and Geta, in full regalia. After the murder of Geta on the behalf of Caracalla, his memory was expunged and the face of the prince was scratched out (damnatio memoriae). Tempera on wood. Acquired from Egypt in 1932 CE. Roman Egypt, c. 200 CE. It is on display at the Altes Museum in Berlin, Germany.
