This basalt Hittite sphinx was placed at the entrance into the palace number three at Sam'al (modern-day Sinjerli, Gaziantep, Turkey). Late Hittite period, 8th century BCE. (Istanbul Archaeological Museums/Ancient Orient Museum, Istanbul, Turkey).
