Chous Depicting Dionysos & Satyr — A Red Figure Chous.
Date: c. 430–420 BCE
Dimensions: H. 22.5 cm

The chous was a drinking vessel associated with the Anthesteria, a festival that celebrated both Dionysos and Hermes of the Underworld. Here we see Dionysus at left and a stayr at right. This scene recalls the drunken festivities of the first two days of the Anthesteria.
