Gazi Mizanur Rahman

With a background in transnational and spatial history as well as historical migration and diasporas in modern Asia, Dr Gazi Mizanur Rahman is an Assistant Professor of History at the BRAC University of Bangladesh. His research focuses on various areas, exceptionally connected histories between South and Southeast Asia, world history, cosmopolitanism, and multiculturalism. Rahman holds a BA (Hons, 2005), an MA (2007), an MPhil (2013) from the University of Dhaka, and a PhD (Universiti Brunei Darussalam, 2021) degree in history. He has received different scholarships, fellowships, and grants from several institutions, including the prestigious UBD Graduate Scholarship; the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore; FASS, UBD Travel Grants; a conference fund from the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS), Leiden, and the Lewis University, Illinois, USA. Dr Rahman has also obtained the UBD Bursary Award. He taught courses such as the History of Bangladesh, the Emergence of Bangladesh, Environmental History of Bangladesh, Ethnic Identity and Nationalism, World Civilisation, and Modern South Asia at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, North South University of Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Islami University. Besides, Rahman has experience in a few research institutions, including the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh. He attended various conferences and academic forums in different countries, namely Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, the USA, and the UK. Dr Rahman has also nominated a chair on the panels for the 12th International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS 12) at Kyoto Seika University, Japan. He is a member of different scholarly bodies, notably the Bangladesh History Association, Bangladesh Archives and Records Management Society (BARMS), the Midwest World History Association in the USA, and the Centre of South Asian and Indian Ocean Studies of Sunway University, Malaysia. Dr Rahman is the selected reviewer of the South East Asia: A Multidisciplinary Journal (SEAMJ), Brunei, and the Journal of Maritime Studies and National Integration (JMSNI), Indonesia. He published several articles in referred and non-referred journals, including the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, Bangla Academy Journal, Journal of Maritime Studies and National Integration, Journal of World Medical and Health Policy, Banglapedia: National Encyclopaedia of Bangladesh, and conference proceedings from the Amsterdam University Press.
