Biography

Frances Thapen I’m an educational consultant based in London and I’m really happy about being part of the Ancient History Encyclopaedia board of advisors. Understanding history is key to understanding the world in which we live and so should form a central part to any curriculum.

After graduating from Oxford University in Mathematics and Philosophy I moved to London and trained to become a teacher with the Institute of Education. I became a specialist in Religious Education, completing an MA in The Psychology of Religion which was the perfect way to bring together my love and studies of all the Humanities subjects. After redeveloping the curriculum and dramatically improving the grades at my first school I moved to a Haberdashers’ school in South East London and set up a successful and dynamic Humanities department from scratch. My final teaching position was as a senior leader with responsibilities including external exams, reports, timetabling and data. Throughout my career I specialised in resource creation and using questioning techniques to help children develop their knowledge.

I have since left working in schools to support education on a large scale. I now work internationally with organisations and families to provide the best education possible.
